SkyTrail High Ropes
Fun filled high ropes adventures for families in North Devon
The SkyTrail High Ropes Course is 24 different challenges to tackle, 10 metres up in the air. Anyone who’s at least five years old and 100cm tall can join us up in the clouds (well, not quite) – and, don’t worry, there’s no upper age limit. Kids between 1 and 1.2m will need an adult with them.
Come and find out just how brave you are when you test yourself physically and mentally on the SkyTrail. We will provide you with all the safety equipment, you just need some comfortable clothing (covering your shoulders) and closed toe shoes.
Right. So here’s the thing about the SkyTrail High Ropes Course. Standing on the ground looking up at it, it seems perfectly reasonable. Manageable, even. Then you clip in, climb the first few steps and suddenly the ground looks very far away and your legs have developed an opinion of their own.
That’s the moment. That’s exactly what the SkyTrail is all about.
Our high ropes course is one of the most exciting outdoor activities in North Devon — a purpose-built aerial adventure trail featuring 24 individual challenges strung between the trees at Hacche Mill, near South Molton. Wobbly bridges, rope ladders, balance beams, traverse lines and plenty of other fiendish tests of nerve and coordination await you up there. All connected. All 10 metres off the ground. All brilliant fun.
The best part? You’re attached to a continuous belay system the whole way round, so you’re completely safe at every point — even when your brain is absolutely convinced otherwise.
The course is fully self guided once you’re up there, which means you set your own pace. Take your time on the tricky bits, power through the ones you find easy, and pause to admire the view whenever you need a moment to collect yourself. No judgement. We’ve all been there.
All safety equipment is provided including a harness, helmet, everything you need. Just come in comfortable clothing that covers your shoulders, wear closed-toe shoes and bring your competitive streak if you’ve got one. The SkyTrail has a way of turning even the most laid-back group into a surprisingly intense leaderboard situation.
Sessions are open to anyone aged five and over who is at least 100cm tall, making it one of the most genuinely family friendly activities in Devon. Younger children between 100cm and 120cm are very welcome but will need an adult alongside them on the course which, honestly, gives parents a brilliant excuse to join in rather than stand watching from below.
Whether you’re visiting Devon on a family holiday, planning a birthday party with a difference, or looking for a group activity that’ll genuinely challenge everyone involved, the SkyTrail delivers every time.
It’s fantastic for school groups and youth clubs wanting to build confidence and teamwork, families looking for something active and memorable to do together, and corporate groups after a team-building experience that involves a bit of genuine jeopardy. Nothing bonds a team quite like watching your manager wobble across a rope bridge ten metres up.
We’re based at Hacche Mill just outside South Molton, making us easily reachable from Barnstaple, Bideford, Exeter and across the wider Devon and Exmoor area. If you want to make a full day of it, the SkyTrail pairs brilliantly with our Abseiling and Low Ropes course, or browse all of our outdoor activities in Devon to put together your perfect adventure day.
Got questions about what’s involved or want to book for a larger group? Get in touch – we’re always happy to help.
Now stop reading and go book it. Those ropes aren’t going to wobble across themselves.
What people say
As a family of five who like to try new things, I can’t recommend this enough. The staff member who helped us was top class. Friendly, accommodating and keen. Although, we were all at different levels of experience, some of us complete notices at climbing – we all managed to spend an enjoyable couple of hours.
Really good day out and cater for all levels of ability. As complete beginners we were a bit nervous to begin with but soon got up to speed. Very good value for money.
To arrange a weekend that is a bit different and feels special is becoming harder to do so it was refreshing ti find somewhere that was happy to listen to our thoughts and ideas and let us run with them. Had a fantastic weekend that combined indoor climbing, raft building challenged and a monster design and build task to product a melon flinging catapult in a morning on a budget of £100. All in a really good time had by all with very relaxed and friendly staff. Would recommend for arranging those vents that are a bit more specialised.
I have been climbing here on and off for almost 4 years now. I keep coming back. This is by far one of the most friendly, helpful and safe climbing centres I have ever been to. The staff are constantly on guard for any mishaps and are very approachable with any and all concerns Especially talking through hypothetical situations and scenarios. Their knowledge is current and at the highest level. Definitely a place to go, and keep going.
I started climbing here about a year ago and love the atmosphere and people I meet. Ladies might, on a Monday which is run by Simmo has become a weekly must. (the coffee is pretty awesome too.) Great instruction is given on technique including safety) plus games are put together to improve climbing ability. I bring my nieces here and they love it. It’s exercise without feeling like you’re i a gym. I can’t recommend it enough!
We visited this whole on our holiday on a rainy day, my son enjoyed it so much he wanted to go back so we did. Twice! The staff are super friendly and very knowledgable. We will no doubt be back next year!
